Ok everybody chill out,

The blog is still here.

Blogger and I seem to have had a difference of opinion. Apparently the Human body and the word Gay in the same place are offensive.

The blog has now been restored and rest assured I have no intention of censoring myself because the evil empire thinks it can throw some weight around.

You will notice a content warning now when you open the blog. This does not mean I will be getting my cock out so don't get too excited. It's a small price to pay for being able to be a Gay blogger in a world of small minds.

I am currently looking at hosting options to avoid this kind of problem in the future but in the mean time you can rest assured that I am not going anywhere.

A complete back-up of the blog exists on my hard drive as well as a complete duplicate of the blog on Wordpress which will go live in the event that the blog here is shut down or deleted permanently.

I am here to stay!

The silver lining in all of this is that it's great to see just how many people are looking out for me and the blog. As soon as it went down I got a stack of emails asking if I was ok and if the blog was ok. Thanks to all of you who contacted me.

For those of you who are still not following me on Twitter or on Facebook, I would suggest that you do. If anything happens to the blog or if there are any changes or updates, they are the best places to keep informed about what is going on.

Time for another rockin day!

Hey, recently I've fallen for a classmate who is kind of homophobic. He constantly makes gay jokes about me, which pain me of course but I can't help thinking of him all the time. What should I do? I don't want to indulge myself in my own fantasies again.

I wonder why this person is on your mind? What is it about him that you can't stop thinking about? What is it about this person who disrespects you, that makes them attractive?

Answer these questions and I think that you will have part of your answer.

Is it a case of wanting what you can't have?

Without knowing the answers to these questions it is hard to give you an answer. What can I can say however is this...

When we fall for someone who does not reciprocate our feelings it's easy to hold on to any attention they give us whether it is good OR bad because it's nice to get any attention at all.

Sometimes when we doubt ourselves or we have a deflated sense of self worth it's easy to accept situations that are not idea because we don't think that we deserve better.

Don't be fooled in to accepting this persons taunts just because you want their attention.

Life is too short to surround ourselves with people who bring us down. You have fallen for someone who does not respect you. Why? Don't you deserve better?

You deserve to be surrounded by people who love and respect you for who you are. This person whether maliciously or jokingly, pokes fun at you and is causing you pain. Why would you want a person like this in your life? You deserve better.

Just how bad does it really suck?

I was walking home the other day with my housemate and we were enjoying the sun and the warm weather. Some how the topic of just how lucky we are came up in the conversation. It's easy sometimes to forget just how lucky we are. We get caught up in our day to day lives and the problems we face really do seem to be a big deal. We judge our misfortunes relative to our lifestyle.

Will that pair of jeans be on sale?
Why can't I get my internet going?
Why are bananas so expensive this week?
Who ate the last piece of cake?

It's easy to live in a modern country, walk freely down the street sucking down a protein shake, wearing warm clothing and enjoying the freedom to speak about whatever we wish and not even think twice about it.

We all have troubles in our life but every now and then it's nice to remind ourselves to have a little perspective. The fact is that if you can walk down the street without fear of being killed, have access to clean drinking water, a roof over your head, can read, have a full stomach or any one of a million things we take for granted any day then life really isn't that bad,

is it?

I have noticed that you seem to have a fondness for singlets. Do you enjoy wrestling either as a sport or an erotic activity?

There's a difference?

Actually I would love to try wrestling but I think it may be for the wrong reasons. I used to have a mate and we both indulged our sports gear fetish by getting together and trying on each others gear. The wrestling gear was especially fun. It helped too that he was ridiculously hot. We usually ended in a sweaty pile.

I remember one day we both went to a park and wore running tights and jockstraps. His were white and you could see everything. Mine were orange and were almost see through. We must have looked quite the site. We were both ridiculously turned on by it. Running, stretching etc.

It was the first time I had ever done anything like that. Now it's not uncommon for me to wear a jock under my gym or running shorts. Occasionally ill wear a singlet when I go out for a run on a really hot night or along the beach. People usually think nothing of it because a lot of guys wear them for triathlon training around here.

Ha, great question. About 2 years ago I held a speedo challenge. To join in readers just had to send in suggestions for places that I should have my photo taken in a speedo.

I was really keen to try to do as many of the challenges as possible. I never thought for a second that it would be possible to do the airplane but as fate would have it, I had to travel to Melbourne to visit family. I thought what an unmissable opportunity.

Fortunately I was traveling on Virgin, who have a reputation for being a fun airline. I am not sure if I would have gotten the same reaction on Qantas, or even Jetstar.

After take off I managed to build up enough courage to go back to the crew area and ask. My heart was pounding. It's not everyday you ask to be photographed in a speedo by a flight attendant.

Most of the crew were female and a single male. I sheepishly approached them and explained that I had a challenge I had been given and asked if they would help me.

They looked me up and down, had a giggle and then proceeded to hand the camera to the male flight attendant and said "enjoy".

I dropped my shorts, the attendant again looked me up and down, snapped the shot and nobody else on the plane knew what had happened.

The whole experience got me so excited that a little later I had to make a quick pit stop on the flight for some personal time.

And that is the story of the speedo and the plane.

Gay 101. The tongue tornado.

I met a guy once while I was away. We had dinner and one thing led to another.

His tongue was amazing.

There are 3 spots on my body that drive me absolutely crazy and he managed to find all three of them. I still get the tingles in my pants when I think about it.

The tongue is often the one sexual organ that we seem to forget about. As gay men we often get pre-occupied with dicks and bubble butts. We forget that sex is about the whole body and not just the genitals.

Paying attention to our partners, enjoying foreplay, the exploration of each other and what gets us off is part of the fun of sex. For young people and especially young Gay guys there is a fixation on Anal and oral sex. Remember though that variety is the spice of life.

One of the most fun ways of exploring your partners body is with your tongue. Believe me I have been on the receiving end of the tongue tornado and it's something you don't want to miss.

So here is a list of some of the places you may find a little tickle with your tongue will result in hours of happy fun time.

Ears.

Today is Australia day down under and all across this sunburnt country Aussies will be BBQing slabs meat to within inches of fossilisation, downing stubbies, chucking prawns on the barbie and playing beach cricket. Today is a celebration of what it means to live in the lucky country.

It's also a time to remember our history, as colourful and turbulent as it has been. The Stolen Generation, War, and all the other problems faced by an infant nation growing in to adulthood.

It would not surprise you to know that I LOVE my country. I love it's speedos, lifesavers, beaches, outback, bbq's, sunshine, people and lifestyle.

Here are a few fun things you should know about Australia.

- Apparently the first European settlers in Australia drank more alcohol per person than any other community in the history of mankind.

- Australian mines (one of our most important industries, which accounts for 15% of Australia's GDP) cover 0.02% of Australia's land mass. More land is occupied by pubs. (Can't find any statistics on the GDP here. My guess is: substantial)

- In 1954 Bob Hawke made it into the Guinness Record Book: he sculled 2.5 pints of beer in 11 seconds. Bob Hawke went on to become the Prime Minister of Australia.

- The Tasmanian Devil does exist, and it has the jaw strength of a crocodile.

- Australia has the world's largest cattle station (ranch). At 30,028 km2 it is almost the same size as Belgium.

- Female vote - Australia was the second country to give women the vote.

- Australia was the 3rd country, after the US and Russia, to launch a satellite into orbit. It was for the British, using a 'Blue Streak' rocket

- It is estimated that by the time transportation ended in 1868, 40 per cent of Australia's English-speaking population were convicts.
- Police force - Australia's first police force was a band of 12 of the most well behaved Convicts.

- Mass moonings - In 1832, 300 female Convicts at the Cascade Female Factory mooned the Governor of Tasmania during a chapel service. It was said that in a "rare moment of collusion with the Convict women, the ladies in the Governor's party could not control their laughter."

- America's cup - In 1983, the yacht "Australia II" ended the Americans 132 year dominance of the America's cup.

- Dropbears - Dropbears are an evil species of koala that fall from trees and attack humans. The evil strain of koala don't actually exist. The story was created to fool Americans.

Midsumma Carnival 2012

Every year the Melbourne Queer community celebrates Queer Culture with the Midsumma festival. The festival runs over a couple of weeks and includes all kinds Queer Cultural events culminating in the Carnival in a Melbourne park called Birrarung Marr. The Carnival has the usual entertainment and stalls, dance party and perving all alongside occasionally indistinguishable, Drag and Dog shows.

These events are a great way for all of us to come together and see parts of our community that don't venture out on the club scene. This year I was impressed by the diversity of our community, particularly with the number of sports clubs and groups that I hadn't noticed before.

Melbourne turned on a spectacular day for the event.

I finally managed to grab a shot with Australian diver Mattew Mitcham. I have been after one ever since I met him.

Thanks also to all the awesome blog buddies who came and said hello. It was great to see so many of you having a great time in the sun.

As I wandered the stalls checking out the speedo boys, cute twinks and dodging the survey volunteers is was impressed by
the diversity in our community. It is just as diverse and varied as the community at large. It's almost like a mirco version of the world. It's easy to think that our community boils down to the Jocks, twinks, gym bunnies, drag queens, bears, circuit queens and Silver foxes. This is simply not true. There are so many different people in between the stereotypes.

You only need to look at the kinds of organisations and sports represented at an event like this to see that Queer culture and queer people pervade all aspects of the mainstream community and organisations. To me this is what pride is about. Standing up and saying yes I am out there, I am part of the community and I am not going anywhere.

Ok guys many of you will remember the speedo challenge. Blog readers sent in places for me to have my picture taken in a speedo. The challenges ranged from trains, buses, car washes, bus stops to even aeroplanes.

It was a lot of fun and I managed to get pictures of myself wearing speedos in all kinds of places. I am most proud of my photo in the doorway of a Virgin Airlines boeing 737-400.

Well this time it's your opportunity to get in on the action.

Step one.

Print out the image above. You should be able to print it around a4 size. This is the best size for scale.
To get the full sized image right click the picture and then click on "open image in a new tab or window". Right click and save :)

Step two.

Cut me out and attach a stick, ruler or chop stick to the back of me. Make sure the stick runs down the leg so that it is not visible when looked at from the front.

Step three.

Take me with you when you leave the house. Stuff me in the glove compartment or in your backpack so that I am handy.

I recently posted a pic of my diary goals for this year. John commented that I had asked for more of everything except time.

I don't need to ask for more time, because time is the one thing I can make.

Everyday I hear people saying,

I wish there were more hours in the day.

I wish I could go to the gym.

I wish I had more time for myself.

I wish I had more time.

Time though is the one thing that we always can find more of.

How many hours a day do you spend in front of the TV, watching porn, staring at the mirror, in bed, on facebook and just generally wandering about?

When ever people tell me they don't have time for something I tell them,

"you will never have time, unless you make time".

How many times a day do we hit the snooze button on life? How often do we sit on our perky asses and say "meh, ill do it later"?

It's simple really. We all have busy lives and in todays world things just seem to be getting faster and faster but if you spend an hour at the gym instead of on the couch or take half an hour to read that book you have always wanted to start will the world end? Will your life fall apart? Whats stopping you from taking a moment and making time!

Gay 101. The Hanky code

This weekend as we chilled out on Sunday around the couch the topic of the Gay Hanky code came up in the conversation.

It did not surprise me to find out that most of my friends had never heard of the hanky code.

The Hanky code was created by Gay men in the 1970's as a means of communicating their sexual preferences and availability. Today we have access to online dating, Grindr and all manner of media to find love and sexual partners that were not available 30-40 years ago. Not to mention that there were very, very few safe places for Gay men to meet. No Clubs or bars in the same sense of what we have today.

The Hanky code is still used and I have on occasion deployed it myself. It is most commonly used in leather bars where combinations of coloured hanky's and armbands are used in what is sometimes referred to as "flagging".

The colour and position of the hanky have meaning. If you wear the band on the Right it means you are the bottom or you want to receive. Wear it on the Left and it means you want to top or you want to give.

A rockin weekend out!

I had planned to make this post yesterday but one of my resolutions this year was to hit the ground running, and work and inspiration meant that time ran away from me.

Now that the holiday season is over and things are beginning to get back to normal I am looking forward to getting back in to my usual routine of work, gym and play.

If there is one thing I have learned about myself it's that I thrive on routine. Take me out of it and I feel a little lost sometimes.

This weekend was the first time in a while that I have really felt at ease with myself going out. Maybe it's the New Years glow or perhaps it's the summer weather but the couch it seems is looking less and less inviting.

Last week I sat down with my diary and listed some of the goals I have for this year. They included, more twinks, more fun, more saying yes and more having a go. So instead of sitting on the couch enduring single life and bad 80's re-runs I have been harnessing my new enthusiasm and hitting the town.

I have a had a bit of a turbulent time over the past 12 months and although I do not often write about my relationships on the blog there is no doubt that it is something that features quite prominently in my day to day life.

I have swung like a free-balling porn star between happily single and desperately lonely. Some nights I revel in my own space and others I have spent hugging my pillow.

Mostly it has resulted in long nights and days of introspection, examining why I was in the state perpetual up and down.

The last month and beginning of this year has felt very different. Perhaps it is the aforementioned summer glow, but more than likely it is that I have been feeling significantly more confident lately than in any other time during the past 12 months.

I have been on dates with some great guys and have enjoyed a lot more attention over the past month than usual. As my housemate keeps telling me "you need to meet some new people".

Confidence as I have written before, is sexy.

I feel even more enthusiastic about what the future may hold for me. I think I am ready to just enjoy the flow. I'm not searching for love right now but I am happy for it to fall in to my lap. I feel ready to commit to giving something a chance.

It would be easy for anyone to read this blog and look at the pictures and believe that I am a boiling bubble of confidence. But it's simply not true. I have my good and bad moments just like anybody else. I actually find myself getting very nervous when it comes to "picking up" and I almost always go home alone. Not this weekend though.

So it was that I found myself out on Saturday night wearing a barely there singlet, short shorts and pumping away to some awesome tunes having the time of my life. I definitely didn't feel invisible. I managed to meet some great guys and spent the night dancing, laughing and working the crowd.

The more that I felt nervous the more that I forced myself to talk. The more I hesitated the more I told myself just do it. The result was that I had one of the best nights I have had in a very long time.

The moral of the story is,

When in doubt, just say "fuck it" and have a go.

Queer eye for the Straight guy.

Almost every week I get asked questions about straight crushes, coming out to straight mates and picking up straight guys.

It's the same story every time.

I have written about the whole "straight guy fascination" before. It seems to me that fantasizing about straight boys is the gay mans equivalent of the straight boy fascination with "lesbians". You only need to look at straight Porn ( I recommend viewing in reflection from a distance using a mirror to avoid any "Ring" style incidents or anything from the Corbin Fisher site... that stuffs HOT! ) to see scenes of girl on girl action and Bisexual fantasies. Mention the "old straight boy and the lesbians" threesome amongst a group of red blooded hetro boys and you will get a 50 IQ point deduction, grunts, drool and tented shorts.

But seriously how many hot busty blonde nympho lesbians are going to bang the straight delivery boy?

The same question goes for the gay guy with a queer eye for the straight guy.

How many straight boys are going to give it up for the gay boy just because he delivers his pizza, gets drunk or answers the door in his tightie whities?

Sexuality is something that we consider personal and sacred. As gay men we have been very vocal about the dignity of our sexuality but do we offer the same courtesy to our straight counterparts? How many of us have been out with friends and thrown around comments like "just give me 5 minutes with him" and "he's a screaming bottom, he just doesn't know it yet". Isn't that the same as a straight guy saying "maybe you just haven't met the right girl", or the straight boy telling the lesbian "you just haven't had me yet". Where is our indignation here?

Amidst all the jokes and the puns there is the very real issue that respect for an others sexuality is something that should extend to all of us. We can't demand recognition of the dignity of our sexuality and then sit back and snicker at the hot straight boy who "just doesn't know he loves dick yet" over our lattes.

The question of whether or not to tell your straight mate you have a crush on him is something that we all need to think long and hard about. Do we believe that confessing our crush will somehow result in the object of our affection suddenly coming over all curious and hopping in to the sack?, because quite simply if we believe that you can't "turn Gay" then we should also respect that our straight mates can't "turn Gay" either. Unrequited love sucks but wishful thinking doesn't work either.

Respect your friends whatever their sexuality is and be realistic about your feelings and where they might lead.

My New year celebrations were fairly low key this time round. I spent new years eve at a friends place with quite possibly one of the best views in Melbourne. You can see the shots of the city skyline and the midnight fireworks a couple of posts below. It was nice to spend the night having drinks and chilling out. Most new years eve's end up as a wild night out getting groped by drunk guys on a dance floor at a club because I went to a pool party and forgot to take a change of underwear and had to go out in my rugby shorts commando and my junk was bouncing around everywhere. Phew say that all in one breath.

This NYE I was home by 3 in the morning. I planned to have a relatively quiet night because a friend had arranged tickets to a dance party for new years day.

Again new years day like new years eve was HOT. Melbourne it seems is turning on a real summer this year complete with hot humid Christmas and scorching new years and what is set to be an all round awesome summer. The party was fun but not really my crowd and it was about this time that all I wanted to do was have a nice cool dinner and sit in front of the TV and enjoy a nice chill. I decided to walk home in the glorious sun, I couldn't help but feel elated at the start of what could be an amazing year.

I may just be superstitious, but I am a strong believer that the way you start your year will set the energy for the year as a whole. If you start with stress or anger you set your energy in that mode right from the beginning. If you spend your new years eve trawling the corridors of a bathhouse or looking for a hook up at a club then your setting yourself up for a year of sexual anxiety. So this year I wanted to start the year fresh and without feeling wasted, tired or unsatisfied hehe.

After a relaxing night at home I spent the day at the pool with some friends. Today was beautiful and the last chance to really enjoy the holidays before I am supposed to go back to work. This year I have decided to make more effort at the gym, get more swimming in to my routine, focus more on work and be more proactive about achieving the goals that I set for myself. I want more work, more love and more happiness and abundance in my life.

Now is the time where we do a stocktake of the year that was. This year was a time of great change all around the world.

Change no matter how great, and revolution no matter how popular, all begins when individuals make the decision to take a stand. This year we saw this all around the world and yet for all of this years turbulence it was not unique. Every year mankind struggles with itself, the environment and it's very soul.

For me the year was a time of self discovery. I continue to grow and learn about myself. This year has had it's joy and it's sorrow. It's tough times and it's good times.

For me this year was one of beginnings. My return to Melbourne, work and life all settled in to Melbourne this year and I am feeling my groove everyday. It has been a year of successes and lessons.

This year has seen,

The growth of our family.

The Marriage of my Sister.

2 successful exhibitions.

Another fun filled tour with Showcase.

The birth of Melbourne Cool.

The re birth of Shannon Boh Photography.

The continuing success of the blog.

The expansion of my work in to areas I previously thought un reachable,

The continuing journey of my own self discovery.

I am now a wiser, calmer happier person than when the year began and I can only hope that 2012 will bring even greater growth.

Perhaps one of the most satisfying achievements of the year for me is the improvement in my photography. As an artist I constantly at odds with my originality and as a business person I am forever concerned that the quality of my work is on par with others in my field. Somewhere in the middle I have struggled to find my own style and voice but this year I believe I have come closer to my goals than ever before, and the recognition of my work is validation that I am on the right path.

Last year my angel was Adam. This year my Angel has been my friend Bek. Bek has been a wonderful guide and support. She has pushed my to try things that I would never have thought possible and I owe her a lot this year for what she has helped me to achieve.

New years Resolution #1 is to listen more to Bek.

So happy new year to all of you. This year lets make every night new years eve and every moment a chance for new opportunity and new beginning.

Thank you for your continuing support and I will see you all in 2012.

New years resolutions.

Now that the year is beginning to draw to a close we begin to look back over the year that was and look forward to what we want to achieve for the next year.

It is easy to take measure of all that we wanted to achieve and did not achieve, and think that we have failed or not taken advantage of the opportunities that were granted us over the past 12 months.

The phrase "life is what happens when you are making other plans" never rings truer than at the end of the year and we reprimand ourselves for all the things we did not do. But is this constructive?

Hells no!

Life is all about change, growth and adventure. If you achieved all your resolutions for this year then way to go. You get a gold star.

If you didn't, then the chance start a new year with even more enthusiasm is almost upon you.

Resolutions are a funny thing. You see they are not exclusive to the New years period, you can make a choice to change something in your life at any time of your choosing. In fact every moment in your life is a chance to say "I am going to...". There is infinite power in those 3 dots at the end. Right there at the end of that sentence is infinite possibility. Now I'm not talking about saying, " I am going to sprout wings and fly around the sun with a feather up my butt". I am talking about making real choices about who we are, how we will approach our day and what we will do with the moments that are given to us.

If you want to quit smoking, you don't need a New Years resolution to do that.
If you want to lose weight, you don't need a New Years resolution to do that.
If you want to hit the gym, you don't need a New Years resolution to do that.
If you want to learn the guitar, you don't need a New Years resolution to do that.
If you want to finally finish that book, you don't need a New Years resolution to do that.

New years resolutions are great because they are 1 thing that helps to give us focus on what we want for the year ahead, but they certainly don't have the monopoly on life choices.

Make the decision every day to be mindful of the moments, the opportunities and the people around you and you will find that the things you want to achieve are not bound by dates but by your own thinking.

The holiday wrap up.

So by now wherever you are in the world Christmas should be well and truly over and it's time to pop those top buttons, let our Ham bellies hang out and kick back on the couch.

I spent Christmas eve with my family, it's a tradition for us to exchange gifts and have dinner together. As a family we don't place too much emphasis on gifts. Before Christmas we each draw a name from a hat and buy that person a gift. The only one who gets spoiled is my niece, but Christmas gifts are really about the kids anyway.

My family was not always like this. We used to buy presents and do fancy Christmas dinners but I think life has in many ways humbled my family. Now the family and my parents especially, appreciate that there is more to life than "things".

We enjoy each others company far more than the physical gifts. I don't think there are many of us who would remember all the Christmas gifts we have received over the years but the memories that do stand out are the adventures we have had together.

My niece gets spoiled rotten but being the only Grandchild in the family will do that. I get more joy out of giving her presents and seeing her playing with them than I do from getting gifts myself.

I think as I have gotten older my expectations of what makes a "good" Christmas have changed. I used to make my list for Santa, or put in my Christmas order with my parents and most of the stuff I asked for never lasted more that 6 months.

Christmas day Mum picked me up from home and we headed out to my cousins place about an hour from Melbourne. The whole of Mums family was getting together for a bbq dinner. If there is one thing about Melbourne at this time of the year it is the storms. You may remember the storm photos I posted about a month ago. This day was no different. As we were driving towards my cousins the sky began to look more and more ominous.

Finally when the storm did break we had to pull over. The weather was so bad, the rain so heavy and the hail so bad that we couldn't even see the car in front of us.

The storm passed as quickly as it appeared and we were on our way again. It wasn't until we reached my cousins that we found out that there had been a tornado further to the west of the city. An extremely rare occurrence. You can't tell me that climate change is a myth.

Dinner at my cousins was like any other. Far too much food, Uncle burns the bbq and deserts that should be against the law. Christmas in my extended family has taken on a new significance over the last few years with the appearance of lots of new children. My cousins are all at the age where they are getting married and having kids.

Our quiet family dinners and lunches are again punctuated by screaming, crying, odd smells and baby talk. It's sickening and heartening at the same time.

So as it turns out Christmas this year was pretty standard. Everyone for some reason decided to buy me chocolate this year so if I wear clothes in my next talky blog it's because I have gained 100kg in chocolate bulk. It was nice today to finally get in some snooze and perve time at the pool.

I hope your Christmas was as tame as mine.

It's been a while since I really felt the Christmas spirit but this year has been a lot of fun so far. If there is one thing that annoys me about Christmas, it's the gift giving. Not because I don't like giving gifts but because every year it gets harder and harder to find gifts that are something more than just the usual commercial junk we collect.

Of course if you like giving presents then by all means go for your life but for those of us who want to share in the spirit of giving without buying into the commercialism of it all here is an alternative.

Christmas decorations are something that always seem to be the one thing at Christmas that we have the toughest time with in my family. They are either cheap plastic things that break or they get lost amongst the junk in the spare room never to be seen again.

Now instead of giving Christmas presents and wandering the Shops aimlessly trying to find something a bit more interesting than the old "plan b" gift voucher I head down to the local craft shop and buy a stack of Christmas baubles, some paints, glitter and a gold pen.

You can get some very affordable Christmas decorations and by adding a personal message to the decoration with your gold pen and combining it with a nice card you have a decoration that will have far more meaning and something that your friends and family can keep and collect, hanging them from the tree every year.

If you really want to have some fun collect some old photos, maybe photos of you and your friends together, stick them to the decorations and cover them with lacquer.

You can also keep your Christmas card each year. Cut the front's of and recycle them as gift tags. Just make sure you don't regift them LOL or your clever personal gift could become a cheap and awkward gift.

So there you have it guys and gals, my budget alternative to taking out a second mortgage on the house to buy Christmas presents.

Do you have a basic workout routine or tips for someone just starting out? I've been running for the past few weeks but haven't done any weight training. I can't afford a gym but I do have adjustable dumbbells.

If you are just starting out then you need to figure out what your goals are first.

Swimming and running will help you to improve your fitness and tone but if you are looking to gain weight then you will need to consider some weight training.

Even though you are not thinking about joining a gym, most gyms will offer a free session with a trainer. Take advantage of this opportunity to get some professional advice.

Before you start to hit the weights you will need to do some kind of strength building exercises. Push ups are a good start. Try 3 sets of ten and then each week work on increasing the number. You will be surprised at the difference it makes.

There are a variety of push ups you can do that will work different areas of your chest and shoulders.

When I can't get to the gym I do 3 sets of 25 push ups over 3 different exercises.

Of course there are more exercises than just push ups that you can do at home. You will need to do a little research but hopefully this will help you make a start.

Classic Push-ups

Push-ups are a great exercise for your chest and shoulders when done correctly.

First, place your hands a little more than shoulder-width apart with your feet together (with wide feet, you take out the balancing portion of the exercise, minimizing the core initiation). Be sure to contract your glutes, abs and quadriceps to keep your back completely straight throughout the exercise. This is where most people go wrong!
It's not just a chest exercise - it's a chest, arms and core exercise. So, be sure to tighten up that midsection throughout.

Lower yourself slowly until your face is just off the ground (or as far as you can go). Don't go farther than you're able to return, or you'll defeat the purpose. Your elbows should flare out slightly.

With an explosive movement, press yourself back up to the starting position.

Diamond Push-ups

This is great for the pecs and shoulders but is a killer for the triceps.

Kneel down on your knees and place your hands on the ground. Position your hands so they make a diamond shape with thumbs and index fingers touching

Lift your body up so that only your toes and hands are making contact with the floor. Make sure your back is straight by tightening those core muscles (quadriceps, glutes, abdominal muscles, lower back muscles). This is important!

Bending your elbows, lower your self to the ground slowly while keeping your body as straight as possible (don't bend your back or allow your hips to sag!). Go as low as you can, but not so far that you can't push yourself back up. Don't be a hero here - go as far as you can and come back up. Even if you can only manage a few inches, that's perfectly fine. You'll get better and stronger with time! Going farther than you're capable doesn't really do any good.

Do as many reps as you can!

Military Push-ups

This one can be hard for beginners who have not built up their triceps strength yet.

Kneel down and place your hands on the floor underneath your shoulders. Make sure your fingers are facing forward. Come off your knees so that only your toes and hands are making contact with the floor. Tighten your abdominals, lower back, quadriceps and glutes to keep your back in a straight line. This is important! If you don't flex these muscles, you'll compromise the purpose of the exercise.

Now, with your back straight and your fingers facing forward, slowly drop your body towards the floor. The important point here is to make sure your elbows pinch your sides. Do not allow your elbows to flare outwards!

Keep moving down until your elbows are just off the floor. Hold this position briefly, then start moving back up to the starting position. Don't lock your elbows at the top!

Your dumbells are very versatile. Jump online and have a look at some of the exercises that can be done with them. Make sure you concentrate on the correct technique or you will injure yourself. Again professional advice is important here.

Also key ingredients to getting fitter and stronger are good diet and sleep. No amount of weights and training will help if you don't give your body the fuel and rest it needs.

Can an Atheist celebrate Christmas?

At this time of year Christmas begins to feature prominently all around the globe. Even for non Christians it is hard to not notice this celebration.

There has been a lot of debate lately in the academic world about the relevance of religion and the rise of Atheism amongst young people and around the world in general.

I don't want to get in to a religious debate in this post. I am an Atheist. I believe in my own divinity and my own ability to create the world in which I will live, but can I still celebrate Christmas?

You don't need to be a religious person to be able to appreciate the value of showing good will to all men, loving your neighbor, and treating others as you would have them treat you.

I have never celebrated Christmas as the birth of "my lord and savior" but I have always reveled in the renewed feelings of happiness and joy for the world that this time of year brings. I enjoy the reconnection with family and friends. I enjoy the renewal of the values of love and respect within the community.

So yes I can celebrate Christmas but not because of dogma. I can celebrate Christmas because good will to all men should be a Human value not a Religious one and I wish all of you wherever you are and whatever religion you follow peace, happiness and abundance.

Is there any inspiration or meaning behind the new blog name, "Aussie Space Time Traveller"?

I guess it speaks to how I view myself in the great scheme of things. I am not religious, I don't believe in a divine being and I don't follow any particular set of dogma. I believe in evolution, both of the body and the soul and I believe I am the creator of my own reality.

The last 5 or 6 years for me have been a real awakening inspired mostly by my Mum and her own spiritual awakening. I never claim to have the answers, in fact I don't think I have any of the answers to anything yet and that is why I see myself as a traveller. The journey is a metaphor for why I am here. I don't think there will ever be an answer to that. I am here to learn and love and evolve in to a more enlightened version of myself.

This journey spans ages, and lifetimes.

People might giggle and turn their nose up but that doesn't bother me. It's a personal truth that I quite literally feel with every atom and fibre of my being.

This personal revelation has helped me to accept the impermanence of the world around me. What does it matter when I leave my sunglasses on the train when that tiny event is measured against a life time of experiences over many lifetimes of existence.

It helps me let go. It helps me find strength and it helps me find comfort.

So right now I am an Aussie space time traveller. I am journeying through the cosmos, evolving and learning everyday.

Gay 101. Poppers

Ok so many of you will have heard the term poppers or know them by their chemical name Amyl Nitrite.

Not to be confused with Amyl Nitrate, Amyl Nitrite is a different little beast.

It's quite common around the Gay scene to see boys using Amyl. Some use it to enhance sex, others use it for a rush on the dance floor.

What ever you do with it, it seems most people consider it to be relatively harmless. Is this really the case?

I should point out now that I am not a medical professional and that you should not see this article as the definitive answer on this topic. If you are concerned about it's use then you should speak to a Doctor.

I can however offer a little advice based on my own experience.

Inhaling Amyl relaxes the smooth muscles throughout the body including the sphincter in the anus. This is why many Gay men use it to enhance sex. The relaxation of these smooth muscles causes the blood vessels in these muscles to dilate resulting in increased heart rate and the warm rush and excitement you feel around your body.

The feeling of being sexually aroused is enhanced.

It is unclear whether there is any direct effect on the brain.

Possible Side effects.

Firstly you should know Poppers are illegal in some parts of the world.

Poppers if over used can bring on the holy mother of all headaches. It can burn if spilt on the skin and cause coma or death if ingested.

Some individuals may experience erectile problems.

Poppers have been linked to increased risk of Glaucoma and loss of vision.

The feeling of euphoria and increased "horniness" can also lead to more risky sexual behaviour. Make sure you put on a condom before you whiff your poppers.

Poppers can also interact with some medications including Viagra which can have negative health effects. If you are using medications then you should speak to your Doctor about the dangers of mixing them with Amyl.

If you had to choose between your camera and speedos what would you choose?

Hmmm, good question but I am afraid that there is only one answer.

I would pick my camera every time.

I am a photographer, it's that simple. As much as I love my Speedos, wait LOOOOOOOOVE my Speedos, taking pictures is my life. I could still preserve my tanlines by just going swimming in my tightie whities... oh the scandal LOL.

In all seriousness though I just love taking pictures. If I feel sad I grab my camera. If I feel happy I grab my camera. If I am bored I grab my camera. I earn my living with my camera.

More than all those things though photography for me is a passion I don't think I could give up. Speedos are a passion too. Don't get me wrong. Giving up my Speedos would result in hours spend forlornly staring in to sports wear stores or begging on the streets for anyone who had some spare lycra. I am sure though, that I could find a nice square leg or short but it just wouldn't be the same.

My Speedos represent to me not only many happy memories of lifesaving, waterpolo, swimming and sexy nights spent with friends but also a hard journey of self acceptance from an awkward pimply teenager to having the confidence to dance on bars in Speedos, walk around the streets and even go swimming in fountains wearing only the briefest of suits. It is something that I struggled with for a long time. Giving up my Speedos would be hard because of this, but it would in no way diminish those achievements.

Somebody suggested I could use my Speedo as a camera bag. Thats not a bad idea but Im not sure I could resist putting it on, and then how would it look?

My camera represents for me a long journey of self discovery. I struggled for a long time to find what I was passionate about. The world through my camera is an amazing place and I would never give that up. Through my camera I have learnt to see the beauty in the little things. To look for the extraordinary in the mundane and to see what others miss.

My camera is an extension of my body. I could no more give it up than I could cut of and arm or a leg.

A bit of leather and a LOT of madness.

I was at a fetish party on Saturday and I must say that I had a really good time. It is always good to get out of my regular scene and do something different.

I am beginning to enjoy this scene more and more. I guess I am beginning to feel more comfortable with my kinkier side. I started slowly, going to the odd leather event and borrowing gear from friends, Eventually I bought my own gear and I am as comfortable in a harness and jock strap now as I am in a speedo.

I don't go for the really out there stuff. You know the stuff I mean... the kinds of things that you know are just a little bit wrong, but there is something I find extremely exciting about a hot man in leather. There is a masculinity that attracts me. Yes yes, I know what you are thinking, I used to think the same way. I find chaps just a little bit too 80's and the village people "look" just doesn't get my blood flowing. For me a hot daddy in a harness and denim however is hard to beat, even better in a jockstrap.

We live in a world where masculinity has become a fetish in itself. Club boys are now covering themselves in tattoos and 5 o'clock shadows. Hairy chests are in and intellect it seems, is out. But there is something about the leather scene to me that seems more real than any of that. Perhaps it is the lack of pretense that I have I have encountered. I am sure that there are exceptions to every rule, but it's my experience that informs my opinion so far.

Masculinity is something I seem to have missed out on hehe. Im not hairy, I struggle to grow a 5 o'clock shadow, I'm not rugged, and I seem to wreak of twinkiness according to sources close to me. Because of this my role at these parties seems to have been predestined, if you catch my drift. My smooth apparently cute and girlish frame tends to attract 1 kind of suitor.

And so it was that I arrived with my friends, stripped off to my harness and jock and proceeded to build my self esteem by letting guys ogle my goodies.

The best thing about these parties is the attitude or lack of. No snotty twinks staring down their noses, no endless parade of drag queens doing the same jokes they were doing in the 90's and no passive aggressive elbows to deal with on the dance floor. It's liberating dancing in a speedo. Imagine how it feels in a jockstrap.

It seems free love for all has found a home where inhibitions have been conquered.

This is part of the problem.

Ok I admit after a few drinks I decided to hit the darkroom. I am a sexual creature, I won't lie and I was going to cash in on the attention my Harness and jockstrap combination was bringing me.

Darkrooms are not something to be approached lightly and keeping a clear head is a life and death situation. Think I am being dramatic?

In this world of inhibition I was dismayed by the number of times I had to use the words "not without a condom". Barebacking it seems, comes with the territory. There is no doubt that these kinds of situations seem to result in a loss of common sense. It was incredible to watch older men, men who should know better, men who would have lost friends in the 80's and 90's being totally irresponsible.

Even with condoms within easy reach there was the assumption more often than not that barebacking was the norm.

HIV/AIDS is an incredibly serious disease. If you are reading this please PLEASE play safe wherever you are.

My memories are enough of a souvenir for me, I don't need anything else to take with me.

Today an estimated 5000 supporters of same sex marriage in Australia marches through the streets of Sydney. They were joined by representatives of the Australian Labor Party who have just voted in favor of changing their parties position on Gay Marriage.

"We have suffered years of humiliation and discrimination, it's time for equality in the eyes of the law," Terry Chandler, an openly gay man cried as he marched along Pitt Street.

Not only is this an important step but it flies in the face of our current Prime Ministers stance on the subject.

The battle is by no means won. The matter when brought before Parliament will be settled by a conscience vote, effectively allowing MP's to vote with out consequence.

The Greens plan to introduce a bill by February next year.

There is no doubt that this is an issue that arouses passions on both sides of the debate. Whatever peoples beliefs are there is no doubt that there is now an impossible momentum building that will be hard to stop.

Like many of the rights and freedoms that others enjoy, I may not agree but I believe in peoples rights to choose for themselves. I hope one day that I will get married and anyone who has a problem with that doesn't have to come.

Gay 101. To Porn on not to Porn

Today I was asked on formspring,

If a porn company offered you tons of money to appear in naughty videos for their website... would you consider it?

Yes, I have been.

And yes I have considered it.

I even said yes, was speaking with the producer and had been given the shoot date and my scenes.

Fortunately it never went ahead.

I say fortunately because I am almost certain I would regret it now.

It was back before the blog had started and I was just finding my confidence in the world. I was feeling powerful, sexual and invincible. The problem is that the decisions we make when we feel like this can have far reaching consequences. Australia is not like the USA where anyone can release a sex tape, get their own TV show, get a small handbag to carry around an even smaller dog and make a living out of being ridiculous.

More than that, even though I enjoy porn ( especially with poppers, my fleshjack and little too much enthusiasm sometimes ), I do not think that you need to see cock and ass to find something sexy or erotic. I have always stood by this on the blog. This is why I don't go full frontal. I also believe that it would have ramifications in my personal life and professional development.

I have friends who I have made porn. I even own a couple of their DVD's. It's kind of hot and kind of awkward at the same time. These guys will never be able to enter any kind of job that involves public attention or public office and will never be able to work with children, without some kind of nervousness in the back of their mind.

So why write a Gay 101 about it? What's the lesson?

For so many young people reading this blog and living in the digital age there is a real question of technology moving faster than out ability to regulate our use of it. Camera phones and the internet have made every Gay man out there a potential pornographer.

Be honest.

How many of you have had a wank on webcam? How many of you have video'd yourself getting a blow job? (Where can I see the video? Joke).

But in seriousness have you ever thought about the consequences of getting your button pressed all over the internet?

If you are desperate to put on a show for all us Keyboard jockey's out there then I would suggest a few tips, pun intended.

1- Don't show your face. Sex faces can be ugly, but more importantly it's easier to convince a News of the World reporter that it's not you in the bathroom with the mission impossible star if they can't see your face.

2- Don't let anyone else have a copy, especially your soon to be Ex. Ending up on GayRevenge.com is surely going to suck.

3- Don't record yourself doing anything illegal like breaking in to your local University and wanking in the classroom. Even better don't do anything illegal in the first place.

4- If you are gonna do it, WEAR A SPEEDO, cos speedos are hot!

5- MOST IMPORTANTLY, consider the consequences of what you are about to do. It's easy to whip out the camera when your dick is on fire and you are in a haze of lust but remember the easiest way to avoid an ugly situation is not to let it happen in the first place.

And if you do decide to do it, well have fun. Sex is meant to be fun. Make sure the lighting is good, add a little yellow to the colour balance to show your tan, soften the focus and go for it.

I am often asked to post more of my photography on the blog. Yesterday I was out in the city collecting some shots for a new project and I decided to head to the Melbourne Museum. The New museum is a modern structure typical in its use of steel and glass. One the the most prominent features of this building are the two great wings that sit above the entrance. I have to admit that I am in two minds about buildings like these. They are modern marvels of engineering and architecture but will they be around in a thousand years time like the Pyramids or the Parthenon? I doubt it.

The building itself I find rather unimpressive during the day. Grey steel and glass create an almost numbing haze in the minds eye while coloured fences and walls seem to have been added as an after thought to "art up" the design. The structures true beauty however, really begins to shine when the sun sets.

The flood lights against the wings create a strip of light that is hard not to find impressive. The wings seem to hang almost impossibly in the air like an inverted runway waiting for inter spatial traveller.

I think this building will grow on me and as I photograph it more and discover something new each time.

HAHA, There are some ridiculously hot guys on the beaches here. Especially along the surf beaches. Trust me, the surfing and surf club cultures do wonders for honing young bodies to perfection. But like any place, Australia is a diverse country with many people of all shapes and sizes. Our beaches look just like any other, obviously though there are places you go to increase your odds of finding hotties. North Bondi for example is always a good spot to start.

Australia has a great tradition of surfing and lifesaving and these cultures embrace athleticism and an active lifestyle. I have always said though that one of the sexiest things a guy can have is confidence and lifesavers and surfers certainly have buckets of this. There is a clear link between healthy body and healthy mind.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, remember that it takes all kinds to make the world go round. It would be boring otherwise.

It's time for marriage equality.

This Saturday could mark a huge turning point in the cause for same sex marriage or a dark day for human rights in Australia.

This Saturday the Labor Party will hold its Annual conference and same sex marriage is sure to be high on the agenda. The reason this is such an important moment is that it is Labors chance to adopt a binding policy in favor of changing the marriage act.

The issue here in Australia has been very closely fought and the vote and the National conference will be close. Our current Prime Minister ( A female, atheist living with her unmarried partner ), does not believe in changing the definition of marriage as it currently stands in Australia.

Australians can make a difference right now by sending your support for same sex marriage to Federal Labor representatives in your state who will most likely be at the conference.

Click here to add your voice. Tell your federal Labor MPs and Senators that you say ‘I do’ to marriage equality.

This Saturday a rally will be held in Hyde Park in Sydney to show our support for all those Labor MPs working towards a binding policy in favor of changing the Marriage act.

I urge you if you are in Sydney on the 3rd to please show your support.

I am 14 and definitely sure I am gay. I've told everyone that I know at my school that I am gay, and I've also told my mom. I have not told my father though. I am afraid to tell him because he is a homophobe, how do I tell him?

When I came out I told my Mum first and then we told my Dad together. It meant that I had some support with me and somebody who was sympathetic.

But...

Everybody is different. This is something that I think you should ask your Mother about. She will have far more insight into how your father might react than I do.

When I told my Father it took him about 6 months to get used to it and tell his family. He wasn't upset but it took him some time to process it and understand. My relationship now with him is as strong as ever.

I certainly didn't think he was homophobic but I was still afraid of telling him.

It's great that you have friends and family who can support you but nobody can deny that our relationships with our parents can be especially complicated.

This is why I think that you need to speak to your mother about this. If you decide to tell him then I would suggest that you and your Mum do it together. Doing this will allow you some support and you can leave and let your Mum and Dad speak about it together. Your father will have questions and it will help to have your Mum there to answer. If things do not go well then your Mums support will be invaluable.

Whatever happens I think you are very courageous to have have come out. It's not an easy thing to do.

Always remember that you are already amazing. You have achieved so much already and the future is going to be even brighter.

Right now the same sex marriage debate in Australia is at the forefront of social debate. As somebody who was not originally a supporter of Gay marriage I have to say that my views on the subject have completely reversed. No matter what your personal opinions might be you cannot deny that the world is turning. Slowly inch by inch.

This is one of the most beautiful ads I have seen yet I hope you watch it and feel as uplifted as I do.

Under all of the political, religious and social rhetoric the argument as I see it is far more simple.

Sexuality is fundamental to our identity of what it means to be human.
